South Beach to Silicon Beach

October 15, 2013 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

How can South Florida become a destination
for technology entrepreneurship?

South Florida prides itself in entrepreneurship, a region powered by micro-businesses and driven by real estate and tourism. However, technology entrepreneurship has yet to create a robust innovation ecosystem. Recently, we have seen an uptake in high growth technology entrepreneurship. There is a growing community of tech startups and an increasing number of resources to support them, including incubators, accelerators, business plan competitions and financing sources. But, is this enough? The community in South Florida is still microscopic relative to other tech centers. Cities such as Pittsburgh and Washington DC/Northern Virginia are making the transition from an “old” economy to a “new” one. Can South Florida do the same? Should it?
